The enigmatic American artist Erica Dunham aka Unter Null has impressed both European and American audiences alike with her provocative and blood spilling live shows. With her unique and uncompromising style and attitude, she scored two huge club hits with "Your Nightmare" and "Sick F*ck" without even having an album released!

Written and recorded in Seattle, USA and engineered and produced by studio guru Len Lemeire (Implant, Anne Clark, Dunkelwerk) at the Implant Plant Studio in Gent, Belgium, this 13-track album is the subliminal and percussive creation of Erica's perverse, sick mind. More and more often described as the female soldier in the Suicide Commando league, our sexy she-devil shouts louder than any industrial beast on the scene!

Unter Null - The Sacrament EP


Info:
The first track, "Prophecy" presents the listener with a cold concrete ambient foundation, reinforced with elements of rhythmic noise and diverse samples. Unter Null's harsh vocals on the whole EP are less distorted than some of her previous work, which works well with this track and the following tracks. Vocals are a very personal thing, but I like to have at least a chance of understanding what they are or guessing the language. "This is your End" ventures a little further on to the dance floor, with elements of trance and few hints of harder EBM, but still an ambient track. "Watch you Die" centres on simple distorted synth and drum lines, garnished with a mournful piano piece that suits the haunting vocal theme 'watch you fade away'. Darkly enchanting this track stands out from the first EP. "Playing the Fool" comes across as a more straightforward EBM track, building from a simple introduction into a more multi-layered piece. Unter Null's ambient leanings are clear, but the track lacks the atmosphere of the first three tracks as it heads towards not so happy hardcore. On the second EP "Disgrace" is an upbeat psy-trance like track but combined with dark hypnotic vocals. The final un-remixed track "Endtime" returns to a more dark ambient sound.

Of the remixes T3chn0ph0b1a's trance metal reworking of "This Is Your End" and Headscan's twee electroclash treatment of the same track caught my attention. Although the remixes are a great bonus, what is really going to make these EP's for the listener is how they respond to Erica's vocals. Sacrament and Absolution confirm Unter Null's accomplished combination of harsh electro and ambient sounds, but I feel that a softer vocal still would further improve that combination.

Psyclon Nine - Divine Infekt

The music of Psyclon Nine from the USA, cosily named after a variant of the nerve gas Zyklon-B, is certainly not made with the help of an original formula. Mix some Hocico, Feindflug, Suicide Commando and Wumpscut in a boiling pan and try to play more brutal than they do. The end result is of course loud and aggressive. Monotonous stamping beats, ultra-distorted vocals, dark synth undertones and the usual samples about hell and destruction.

You can?t call the music of Psyclon Nine very subtle. It?s perhaps well suited to release your energy at EBM dancefloors. For enjoyment at home the music on ?Divine Infekt? is probably too superficial. There?s also not much variation present on this album. The last track is a remix of the title track by labelmates and comparable act Tactical Sekt. This is a straightforward cyber clubhit.

There?s nothing innovative about this album, they just try to empower you with sheer force. If you?re a Hocico adept or if you think Suicide Commando has become too soft, you should taste the brutal and harsh Psyclon Nine?

Formed in 2004, FGFC820 is the new tribal EBM project from well known and respected New York DJs Rexx Arkana and Dräcos. Drawing on influences ranging from old school industrial to modern gabber, Arkana and Dräcos combine to create a sound that is at once melodic and relentlessly rhythmic. In addition to twenty years of experience as both a DJ and promoter-having worked with everyone from industrial stalwarts Skinny Puppy and Ministry to newer stars Covenant and VNV Nation-Rexx Arkana is also the founder of scene super group Bruderschaft. As DJs, it's not surprising that FGFC820's compositions inspire movement, nor that their messages have been enslaved by the beat. FGFC820 create bone-crushing dance floor anthems, drawing early comparisons to such legends as Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb.
