Installation Help

These games are a bit too old to say the least, and have no clue what Dual Core, Hyper Threading, SMP or any other multi-processor technology means. If you don't follow the steps below, you will be able to start the game, but it'll crash in about 10 - 15 seconds!

The solution below (step number 5) is manual, and should be performed each and every time you start the game. There is another automated way of doing this, if you're really interested, which is available at Code:http://www.adsciengineering.com/StartAffinity/

• Thief 1 Help:
  --------
  
  1. Mount the game ISO (thief_1.iso) using one of the many available tools (I recommend Daemon Tools)
  2. Install the game - full install
  3. Check for updates and patches online - if any
  4. CD is not required to launch the game - yep, it's that old :p
  5. Once the game is launched and you're at the main menu, minimize the game and do the following:
  5.1 Right-click on your taskbar and select "Task Manager"
  5.2 In Task Manager, select the "Processes" tab
  5.3 Right-click the game's process (I can't really be asked to check which one it is, sorry), and select "Set Afinity"
  5.4 Uncheck one of the CPU's if you have more than one (I would recommend unchecking CPU 1)
  6. Go back to the game and enjoy!

• Thief 2 Help:

  5.3 Right-click the game's process (again, please check for the process name, which is probably t2.exe or something like that), and select "Set Afinity"

  6. Go back to the game and enjoy!
